A variety of scholarship opportunities are available to students pursuing graduate degrees. For your convenience, we are providing you with a list of scholarships offered through Slippery Rock University in addition to links connecting you with scholarships offered by outside organizations and agencies. The criteria and availability of scholarships is subject to change without notice. Students are encouraged to use this listing as a starting point in their search for scholarship assistance.

William and Nancy Allenbaugh FELLOwship

Criteria: Awarded to a promising Clinical Mental Health Counseling Student who has chosen to concentrate in addictions. Awarded to a third year student who excels in clinical practicum/internship and plans to work in the addictions field.

Amount: up to $500.

Deadline: the last day of August.

Charles M. Bennett fellowship

Criteria: Awarded to a Counseling and Development graduate student who has a minimum QPA of 3.5 and is a PA resident who demonstrates financial need. Applicant must have completed the Principles of Appraisal course and be interested in the area of psychological testing.

Amount: Amount varies

Candice D. Berner Adventurous Spirit Memorial Award

Criteria: Awarded to either a part-time or full-time graduate student. Must have a QPA of 3.0 or higher in Special Education. May be from any geographical area. Demonstrate adventurous spirit in work with at-risk students, travel, and athletics. Applicant must attend the graduate honors reception.

Ann T. Bicknell Memorial Fellowship

Criteria: Any undergraduate or graduate sudent enrolled or accepted for enrollment in the Gerontology Program at Slippery Rock University.  Must complete the scholarship.

Katalin Borvendeg Memorial Fellowship

Criteria: Applicant must be admitted to the SRU Doctor of Physical Therapy program and have paid the required deposit fee. Individuals with diverse cultural, racial, and experiential backgrounds, as well as non-traditional applicants, are encouraged to apply. The amount is up to $500, and the deadline is July 1st. Joseph F. and Rita J. Campbell Fellowship

Criteria: Awarded to a graduate student pursuing a Master of Education: Reading program. Candidate must have completed at least 6 credits in the program and have a minimum 3.5 QPA. First preference to students currently employed as school teachers and not receiving tuition reimbursement from their employer.

Ryan F. Chandler Memorial Fellowship

Criteria: Graduate student currently enrolled in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program who has successfully completed the first semester of study within the program and who can demonstrate a plan to complete the DPT Program requirements. Student must demonstrate dedication to the PT profession through an eagerness to help others, and involvement in activities; student must demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills, and must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Class of '57 fellowship

Criteria: Education major, must have completed 45 credit hours and have exhibited significant service and/or contribution to SRU and/or surrounding communities. Undergraduate applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA and graduate applicants must have at least a 3.5 GPA.

Amount: up to $1,000

Counseling and Development fellowship

Criteria: This scholarship is awarded annually to a promising incoming, first year Counseling and Development student who has been offered admission as a full-time student. The applicant must also have a minimum undergraduate QPA of 3.25.

Amount: up to $500

Dr. Lou Bohl-Fabian Memorial Fund

Criteria: This fund will be used to provide "special funding" such as grants and stipends to graduate students that are pursuing advanced degrees in research, the environment/outdoors, political science or the arts - all areas of special interest to Dr. Bohl-Fabian.  Applicants must have a 3.5 GPA or higher.  For more information, visit this website.

Fitz Dixon Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Applicant must be an undergraduate student who has passed 45 credits with at least a 3.0 GPA or a graduate student who has passed at least 9 credits with at least a 3.5 GPA.  For more information, visit this website.

Donald and Claudia Graham Physical Therapy fellowship

Criteria: Graduate student in the 3+3 Doctorate of Physical Therapy program who demonstrates a solid commitment to success in the Physical Therapy profession as evidenced by two letters of recommendation. One letter should be from the student's academic advisor or faculty member at SRU, and the other letter should be from a volunteer supervisor or individual familiar with the student's work outside of the classroom.  Recommendations should be sent to Dr. Martin-Elkins. Applicant must be a full-time student and the award will be made to a student at the beginning of the fourth year of the program upon acceptance into the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a US citizen to be eligible.

Marjorie Christy Maguire Fellowship

Criteria: Graduate student in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program who is in good academic standing, and who has demonstrated excellence in academics, clinical practice and research. Applicants must have successfully completed the first semester of study within SRU's DPT program.

Amount: up to $1,000

Maggie Meise Graduate Fellowship

Criteria: Applicant must be enrolled as a graduate student at SRU to qualify. Applicants must have a minimum of 9 graduate credit hours by the end of the current semester and demonstrate a minimal overall graduate QPA of 3.5. Student must have demonstrated involvement in community service and/or university activities. Applicant will need two letters of recommendation- at least one from a SRU employee, a completed application form, a one-page typed statement- with a minimum of 100 words- from the applicant describing his/her character, personal interests and future plans must be included. Statement must include scholarship's name.

Amount: up to $900.

Deadline: Must apply by December 8

Hazel Andrews Reed Physical Therapy Fellowship

Criteria: Third year graduate student in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program in good standing who demonstrates excellence in academics, clinical practice and research. Student must be a member of the APTA.

Amount: up to $1,000

Bruce Russell Award for Criminology and Criminal Justice

Criteria: Student must be a graduate student in Criminology and Criminal Justice Major. The award will go to the student in the program with the highest GPA.  Part-time students are eligible.

Anne Wuenschel fellowship

Criteria: Student must be enrolled in Physical Therapy 3+3 program and must be entering their first year of DPT program. Student must be taking on-campus courses to receive this scholarship. No scholarship application is required. Award recipient will be selected from 3+3 DPT students in their first semester of the graduate program. Selection will be based on students DPT application materials.
