Post Baccalaureate/Second Bachelor's/Certificates

Post Baccalaureate study is for those who:

Completed an undergraduate degree AND
Are interested in acquiring another bachelor's degree or certificate or completing additional coursework towards graduate/professional school preparation or for career/personal enrichment (credential stacking).

IF you do not hold a bachelor's degree, please refer to the Admissions webpage for additional options.

Credits ARE NOT transferrable from the original degree to a second degree or certificate. Academic Departments may consider waiving degree/certificate requirements or issuing contractual agreements based upon review of prior coursework. Undergraduate Admissions cannot review prior coursework on behalf of the Department.

Why pursue a second bachelor's degree or certificate?

Earning another degree or simply completing a certificate program to stack credentials increases your marketability, will help you to remain current in your field or provide you with the much-needed expertise that could take your career to the next level.

Types of Post Baccalaureate Options

There are two distinctive options, degree or non-degree. Both require that you hold a first bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. A degree beyond the first bachelor's requires a least 30 credits for completion and does not have a Rock Studies (general education) component. If the departmental requirements consist of less than 30 credits, electives will be necessary for degree completion.

Degree includes another or second bachelor's degree, certification or certificate study.
Non-degree includes personal enrichment or prepare for graduate study at SRU or another institution, and Act 48.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Students applying for non-degree post baccalaureate study are required to apply for admission each term they intend to enroll.

Application Process & Status Updates

Complete the post-baccalaureate online application.

Only degree or certificate applicants pay a $30 application fee in the portal.
Non-degree applicants are not assessed an application fee.

Transcripts

If you are applying to obtain a second bachelor's degree or certificate you must submit all official transcripts from all previously attended institutions.
If you are applying as non-degree you may submit unofficial transcripts.

Major Requirements for Admissions

Education majors (all) require a 2.8 or higher GPA; conditional admission may be granted with existing credentials or the submission of specific certification requirements outlined by the College of Education.

Financial Aid

To be considered for either need or merit based aid students must fill out the FAFSA at www.studentaid.gov (SRU CODE: 003327).
Post Baccalaureate students are generally eligible for Federal loans and must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credits (i.e., half-time).
Important to note that Federal loan eligiblity is not income based for the Unsubsidized loan type.

As a post-baccalaureate student you are not eligible for the non-resident tuition discount.

Status Updates

Slippery Rock University Admissions processes applications and decisions on a rolling basis.
Allow 1-2 business days from the application submission for your checklist to reflect accurate details.
We recommend checking back often for updates to your application status in the portal.
When an admission decision is made an email notification is sent to return to the application portal.

Advisement & Registration

Enrollment

Successful applicants will receive an email notification with instructions to accept the offer for admission by submitting the reply to offer form in the application portal.
Once enrolled students receive another notification with a Rock ID and instructions to setup an email account to access the MySRUPortal and much more.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Students enrolled for non-degree post baccalaureate study who intend to continue enrollment as non-degree must apply for admission each term.

Advisement & Registration

After being admitted post-baccalaureate students, whether degree or non-degree seeking, work with the academic department for advisement and registration.
