Jan. 15, 2019
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Jeff Smith, chair of the Slippery Rock University council of trustees, president of the Pennsylvania Association of Council of Trustees and Butler City Council secretary, will wear two more hats this week.
Smith will join other state and higher education dignitaries as a participant at the Jan. 16 inauguration of Daniel Greenstein, chancellor of Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education. The following day, Jan. 17, Smith will make a presentation to the State System's board of governors regarding PACT's work.
PACT is a membership organization comprised of PASSHE trustees that exists to educate trustees on national trends in higher education; to apprise trustees of issues facing the State System and establish a network of trustees to convey trustees' views to the chancellor and board of governors; to provide professional development opportunities to trustees in order to enhance their service to the State System; and to inform and update trustees about academic programs and administrative policies of the 14 State System universities.
Greenstein took office as the State System's fifth chancellor Sept. 4, 2018. He is the chief executive officer of the System and is responsible for its management.
Greenstein previously led the Postsecondary Success strategy at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, where he worked with other higher education leaders across the country on initiatives designed to raise educational-attainment levels and to promote economic mobility, especially among low-income and minority students.
