SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Slippery Rock University's Office for Inclusive Excellence will host Gisele Barreto Fetterman for a special conversation, 5-6:30 p.m., April 5, at the Miller Theater in the Performing Arts Center. Fetterman will discuss how her intersectional identities have impacted her life's journey. The event is free and open to the public.

"We are excited and honored to have Gisele visit campus and share her important story," said Ivory Dunlap, SRU director of inclusive excellence. "Her experiences speak for many underrepresented voices in our society. We're grateful she's using her platforms to advocate for others and that she chose to come to SRU to share her message."

Fetterman is an access and equity advocate and the former Second Lady of Pennsylvania. Her partner, U.S. Sen. John Fetterman, was previously Pennsylvania's Lieutenant Governor before being elected as a U.S. Senator. She was born in Brazil and emigrated as a child to the U.S., living as an undocumented immigrant for more than a decade.

She is the founder of Freestore 15104, which aims to eradicate food and clothing insecurity, and she is the co-founder of 412 Food Rescue and For Good PGH. 412FR is a Pittsburgh-area effort to end hunger and reduce food waste. For Good PGH is a nonprofit organization that works to advocate inclusion and inspire kindness. Her work has been featured in the TODAY Show, CNN, NPR and more.
