SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Slippery Rock University's nursing programs have earned national recognition by receiving the 2021-22 Colleges of Distinction Nursing Field of Study badge. Colleges of Distinction, an online guide for college-bound students, has already honored SRU as a 2021-22 College of Distinction, but this is the third specialized recognition for programs, in addition to business and education.

According to COD, the Field of Study badge for nursing indicates that SRU's programs "enable its students to take calculated action even in high-pressure situations," and "students are challenged to remain curious and compassionate throughout their rigorous practice."

"We complete a thorough review of the programs in question before giving the awards," said Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer for Colleges of Distinction. "We're looking for such qualities as accreditation, breadth of program, advising and mentoring, integration of career services and successful outcomes for students. It's wonderful to see how SRU really exemplifies these qualities."

SRU, one of the first nursing programs in the country to offer classes completely online, has two programs: a 21-credit program for graduate students to become certified school nurses and a 30-credit, RN-to-BSN program for registered nurses to build on their associate degree or diploma education and earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

"We're pleased to once again receive recognition for our nursing programs," said Michele Crytzer, associate professor of nursing and department chair. "Our programs are designed to provide students with the skills they need to adapt and thrive in the ever-changing health care environment. Recognition like this further confirms the commitment of our faculty to student success and a culture of excellence."

Earlier this year, SRU earned badges from COD for being named a 2021-22 national, public and Pennsylvania college of distinction, as well as Field of Study badges for business and education.
