Stephen Barr, Slippery Rock University assistant professor of music, will premiere his composition, "Penumbra," at the Butler County Symphony Orchestra's concert, 7:30 p.m., Feb. 3, at the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium. Barr's piece, part of the BCSO's "Planets" concert, will feature euphoniumist Tom Mahovsky, a 2012 SRU graduate with a degree in music education and euphonium performance.

Barr is an award-winning composer and conductor whose work has been performed by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and well as orchestras and ensembles in Florida and Colorado. Mahovsky, an airman first class stationed at Travis Air Force Base in California, is a member of the U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West.
