The Rocket places at the PNA Keystone Media Awards

The Rocket, the independent, student-run newspaper at Slippery Rock University, recently placed in eight categories in the Keystone Student Media Contest hosted by the Pennsylvania News Association. The awards recognize high school and college journalism that provides relevance, integrity and initiative in serving readers. The Rocket staff earned awards in the following categories for Division II, which includes four-year colleges and universities with enrollment less than 10,000:

  • Nina Cipriani, a senior strategic communication and media major from Altoona, won first place in the Cartoon/Graphic Illustration category.
  • Cipriani and Matthew Glover, a senior strategic communication and media major from Chambersburg, won second place in the General News category.
  • Tyler Howe, a senior strategic communication and media major from East Butler, won second place in the Sports Story category.
  • Howe and Brandon Pierce, a senior strategic communication and media major from Gibsonia, won second place for the Video Story category.
  • Rayni Shiring, a 2022 graduate with a degree in strategic communication and media, won second place for the News Photo and Layout and Design categories.
  • Jocelyn Kytchak, a senior strategic communication and media major from Greenville, earned an honorable mention for the Layout and Design category.
  • The Rocket staff earned an honorable mention for the Editorial category.
