Slippery Rock University's third annual Giving Day, March 26, raised more than $139,000, exceeding the campaign goal of $100,000 and surpassing last year's total by 157 percent.

More than 1,700 donors contributed to the one-day fundraising campaign, organized by the SRU Foundation, Inc., as a way to encourage University alumni, friends and current faculty, staff and students to donate to the institution.

Several student-group competitions and leadership challenges contributed to the success of Giving Day, including two matching donations for the first $3,000 raised: The Slippery Rock Student Government Association, Inc., contributed $2,705 to Campus Crusade for Christ for raising the most money among student groups, and SRU President William Behre and his wife, Leah Ingram, matched the first $3,000 raised for the Student Leadership Award. Gail Paserba, '90, and International Quality Consultants, Inc., donated $10,000 once the campaign reached its $100,000 goal.
