The Slippery Rock University field hockey team recorded the highest cumulative grade point average among NCAA Division II squads to earn the 2017-18 National Field Hockey Coaches Association/Zag Sports National Academic Team Award.

The team's cumulative GPA of 3.71 after the fall 2017 semester was the highest team GPA in program history. Under the guidance of head coach Julie Swiney, SRU has led the country in cumulative GPA five times in the last eight years. Seven members of the team earned NFHCA Scholar of Distinction honors by achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the fall 2017 semester.

On the field, SRU had one of its best seasons in program history. The team won 10 games, qualified for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament and spent time ranked in the NFHCA Top 10 poll.
