SRU students place second at accounting competition

A team of three accounting students representing Slippery Rock University earned second-place honors at the 2022 Institute of Internal Auditors, Pittsburgh Chapter, Presentation Contest.

Marissa Fukas, a senior accounting major from Pittsburgh; Quintin Held, a senior dual petroleum and natural gas engineering and accounting major from Cranberry Township, and Samantha Klingensmith, a senior accounting major from South Park, received a $1,000 reward for their report, the “Three Lines of Defense.” All three students are in an Audit Theory and Practice course taught by Theresa Phipps, associate professor of accounting, economics and finance.

The competition was open to teams from all colleges in western Pennsylvania with Robert Morris University placing first. Teams were assigned a topic to present, and students had to present their materials on appropriate interview techniques. IIA members served as judges.
