The Rocket earns five PNA Keystone Media Awards

The Rocket, the student-run newspaper at Slippery Rock University, won five categories in the 2022 Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association Student Keystone Media Awards. The awards recognize high school and college journalism that provides relevance, integrity and initiative in serving readers. The Rocket staff earned awards in the following categories for Division II, which is four-year colleges and universities with enrollment less than 10,000:

  • Photo Story, first place, by Rayni Shiring, a senior communication major from Carnegie.
  • Layout and Design, first place, by Hannah Slope, a senior communication major from Somerset.
  • Video Story, first place, by Morgan Miller, a 2021 graduate with a degree in communication, and Brandon Pierce, a junior communication major from Gibsonia.
  • Public Service/Enterprise Package, second place, by Joe Wells, a senior communication major from Slippery Rock.
  • Editorial, honorable mention, by The Rocket staff.
