SRU receives $100,000 grant for special education training

Slippery Rock University’s Special Education Department received a $100,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education as part of the PDE’s Accelerated Program for PK-12 Special Education Teacher Certification grant program. The grant will allow SRU to partner with a local district in helping college students get experience and training in special education, including summer field experiences, mentoring by experienced special educators during the school year, and delivering a postbaccalaureate program for PreK-12 special education teacher certification within 18 months. The grants were awarded to 15 colleges and universities in Pennsylvania with approved PreK-12 special education certification programs.
