Planned Electrical Power Service Interruption: Sunday, Nov. 3

Power has been restored throughout campus. Residents requiring assistance or to report an issue should call police dispatch at 724.738.3333.

The planned power outage is underway as of approximately 7:35 a.m. Repairs are actively underway at this time. Estimated time of power restoration is 12 Noon, pending no complications to the repair plan. This page will provide another update when new information is available.
Updated: Nov. 1, 2024, 9 a.m. EDTThe lower section of Slippery Rock University’s main campus will have a planned electrical service power interruption on Sunday, Nov. 3, from approximately 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Harrisville and other locations are not impacted.)
The safety and well-being of all students, faculty and staff is our paramount concern, and this planned interruption is to restore optimal electrical service throughout campus by repairing the medium voltage electrical feeder cable that failed on Oct.11.
Beginning Friday, Nov. 1, through Sunday, Nov. 3:
- Aebersold Recreation Center’s Gym A and locker rooms will have limited power and lighting.
- ARC Loop Road on the Critchfield Park side will be closed due to temporary generator placement.
On Sunday, Nov. 3, we currently anticipate the following changes to campus operations* :
- 6 a.m.: Old Main, North Hall and Rhoads Hall will have no network access for the duration of the power interruption.
- 7 a.m.: Electricity, network and Wi-Fi service to the below buildings will be interrupted, with emergency lighting on battery power, for the duration of the power interruption:

- Advanced Technology and Science Hall
- Spotts World Culture Building
- Eisenberg Classroom Building
- Physical Therapy Building
- Vincent Science Center
- Bailey Library
- Smith Student Center
- Boozel Dining Hall
- Campus Success Center
- Swope Music Hall
- Jack Critchfield Park
- Residential Suites buildings A-F (including Watson Hall, building C) (Hot water service disrupted. See planned support below.**)
- Rock Apartments
- 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.: Weisenfluh Hall hosts brunch service (relocated from Boozel Dining Hall).
- 2 p.m.: Smith Student Center building reopens.
- 3 p.m.: Smith Student Center dining options reopen (Starbucks, Quaker Steak & Lube and Rocky’s Grille).
- 3 p.m.: Bailey Library reopens.
- 5-8 p.m.: Boozel Dining Hall reopens for dinner service.
* Please note that the above times may change once active repairs begin. We will make every possible effort to keep you apprised of changes via email on Sunday, Nov. 3.
Planned Support Services during Power Interruption
- Select labs in the Physical Therapy Building, Vincent Science Center and Advanced Technology and Science Hall will continue operations on generator power. If your laboratory or research experiment requires uninterrupted power, students should contact their faculty adviser, and faculty should contact their dean before Thursday, Oct. 31.
- Wi-Fi access and charging ports will be available during the power outage in:
- Morrow Field House. Tech support is available on site.
- Room 119 is open for students needing access to a presentation room and computer lab.

- Strain Safety Building.
- Additional sites may be added should the extent of the outage expand.
- Academic buildings in the lower section of campus that are typically open on Sundays will not have Wi-Fi access.
- Refrigeration
- If your residence hall room has a refrigerator, keep the door closed to maintain coolness of the contents.
- If you have medicine that requires refrigeration, keep your refrigerator door closed to maintain coolness. If you choose, you may bring your medicines to Weisenfluh and see Lynna McNany, manager.
- **Showers are available at Morrow Field House. Please enter through the lower-level doors. Follow the signs for men’s and women's restrooms.
- Blue light phones and campus call boxes are not impacted.
- If you require assistance call University Police at 724.738.3333 or extension 3333 from campus phones.
Other Updates
- Upper campus locations may experience momentary power interruptions on Nov. 3 while testing of the repairs to lower campus are being conducted.
- The SGA Happy Bus will maintain its normal operational schedule.
- Activities scheduled during the times of the power interruption will continue as planned. Check with the specific activity organizer for additional information.
Planning for Power Interruption
- Faculty and staff are encouraged to take their laptops with them when departing campus on Nov. 1 or 2.
- Students in impacted buildings are encouraged to fully charge their electronic devices, including portable power packs, before 6 a.m. on Sunday Nov. 3.
External Organizations and Groups
- The Pittsburgh Steelwheelers rugby tournament in the ARC will proceed as scheduled with limited generator power and lighting to Gym A and the locker rooms.
- Gateway Church will not hold its recurring Sunday 10:30 a.m. morning service in the Smith Student Center Ballroom. The church’s 5 p.m. Gateway Night event off campus is proceeding as scheduled.
