Hummer named distinguished gerontological educator

Deborah Hummer, a 1993 Slippery Rock University graduate with a degree in nursing, received the Distinguished Educator in Gerontological Nursing Award from the National Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence.

The award recognizes the leadership of nurse educators working with students, faculty and providers and older adults in diverse settings. Hummer is an assistant professor at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Hummer has more than 30 years of nursing experience, including bedside nursing in both acute and long-term care settings, leadership and education. She joined the faculty at UNCP in 2016.

The NHCGNE is a member organization of national and international nursing schools that optimizes health and quality of life for older adults.
