C. Vivian Stringer, a 1970 Slippery Rock University graduate with a degree in physical education, recently became just the fifth NCAA Division I women's basketball coach to reach 1,000 career wins.

Stringer, in her 23rd season as the head coach at Rutgers University and her 47th year overall as a head coach, won her 1,000th game earlier this month to join Pat Summitt, Tara VanDerveer, Geno Auriemma and Sylvia Hatchell as the only Division I coaches to reach the milestone.

Stringer, one of 11 women's coaches inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, previously coached at Cheyney and Iowa before taking over the Rutgers program in 1995.
