The following links provide resources related to weather-related issues, policies, and operational procedures at Slippery Rock University:

Commitment to Services

Slippery Rock University is committed to maintaining uninterrupted classes, student services, and campus operations. However, if severe weather creates unsafe conditions for students or employees, the University may modify schedules or close campus to ensure everyone’s safety.

Weather Data Source

The National Weather Service (NWS) is the primary forecasting source that helps inform weather-related operational decisions at the University.

Inclement Weather

SRU remains open during inclement weather with no changes to class schedules, staffing or services unless the University explicitly announces a weather-related delay or closure (see below).

Weather-Related Announcements and Distribution Channels

Notices and Updates (Informational) will be distributed via RockMail.

Impact on Operations (Actionable) will be distributed via RockMail and sru.edu, plus:

  • RockAlerts:
    • Subscribers will only receive an emergency notification of closure, delay, or other impact to operations. For more information, visit sru.edu/alerts.
  • Social Media:
  • SRU notifies the following media outlets about delays or closures:
    • Television stations in Pittsburgh market (affiliate): WTAE (ABC), KDKA (CBS), WPGH (FFOX), WPXI (NBC).
    • Television stations in Youngstown, Ohio, market (affiliate): WYTV (ABC), WKBN (CBS), WYFX (FOX), WFMJ (NBC).
    • Radio stations (frequency): WLER (97.7 FM), WISR (680 AM), WBUT (1050 AM), All Northwest PA Operation Weather Alert affiliates including WYLE (95.1 FM, 97.5 FM) and WUZZ (1280 AM).
    • Other: ButlerRadio.com and ButlerEagle.com
