
Dr. Bonnie Siple is a Professor in the Department of Exercise Science and Athletic Training and serves as a faculty member for the Athletic Training Graduate Program (ATGP). Dr. Siple teaches a variety of professional courses in the ATGP and serves as coordinator of the clinical education component of the ATGP. In addition to teaching, Dr. Siple served as the undergraduate AT program coordinator for 13 years and as a clinical athletic trainer for several sports at some point during her tenure at the Rock.
Beyond the department, Dr. Siple is particularly proud of her contributions to improving LGBTQ inclusion on campus as a member and former Co-Chair of the President’s Commission on Gender Identity and Expression and Sexual Orientation. Dr. Siple is a founding member of the university Interprofessional Education (IPE) Committee and has been involved in coordinating efforts with her colleagues to develop collaborative practices and programming on campus. In addition to her service to the university, Dr. Siple has had the privilege to serve on the Board of Certification (BOC) Examination Development Committee as an examination item writer and validator. She has also served the BOC as an examiner training facilitator, examiner, model, proctor, and exam day video model. Dr. Siple has presented at the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association (EATA), and Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society annual meetings as well as the NATA Educators’ Conference. Dr. Siple currently represents PATS with the District 2 LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee. She also served as the Northwest Regional Representative for PATS and initiated the PATS Diversity Subcommittee.
Slippery Rock University is Dr. Siple’s alma mater, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Health Science with an emphasis in Athletic Training and a minor in Gerontology. She earned her master's degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Athletic Training from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. Dr. Siple completed her doctoral degree at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA, in the Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program for Educational Leadership. Her area of research interest is in social justice, mentoring, and athletic training pedagogy.
