Facilities

The Office of Campus Recreation is responsible for the operation of the Aebersold Student Recreation Center (ARC), the McFarland Recreational Sports Complex (MAC), Ski Lodge, campground, and REACH high ropes courses. The facilities are used primarily for student recreational activities, but times are also allotted for facility rentals.  The availability of these facilities varies each semester depending upon the schedule of Campus Recreation activities. Below is an overview of each facility and relevant reservation information and procedures.

Aebersold Student Recreation Center (ARC)

SRU rock wall

The ARC is an 82,000 square-foot, state of the art controlled access facility used for a variety of recreational programs including informal recreation,  intramural sports, club, and student organization special events. Participants must present their SRU ID or ARC Membership card to gain access.  

Facility Components: Aquatic Center, climbing wall, fitness mezzanine, Gym A1-4, Gym B, RPM Multi-Purpose Room, Russell Wright Fitness Center and fitness lab, track, locker rooms and family changing/all gender restroom.

McFarland Recreational Sports Complex (MAC)

The MAC is an outdoor recreational sports complex, at the corner of Harmony and Branchton Roads, used for informal recreation, intramural sports, and facility reservations/rentals.  The fields are used for softball, kickball, flag football, soccer, and ultimate frisbee.   

Facility Components:  Six lighted sports fields (two softball fields and four multi-sport fields), dek hockey rink/two basketball courts, exercise pathway, rugby field, 18 hole disc golf course, and operations building with restrooms.      

High Ropes Course (REACH Program)

Challenge/High Ropes course with tower and zip line located in the wooded area near the on-campus Ski Lodge/Campground. These facility components can be scheduled for leadership and student development activities by on-campus student groups and organizations. Ski Lodge/Campground

Reservations for both of these facilities are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  A Facility Request form must be completed and submitted to the Office of Campus Recreation for approval prior to usage.  Please call 724.738.4800.

The Ski Lodge and Campground are located on campus, next to the ROCK Apartments, on 6+ acres of land.  The  rustic design of the Ski Lodge offers a variety of opportunities to gather on campus.  Shower and restroom facilities are available inside the lodge. The lodge is not air-conditioned.   The campsites are ideal for camping, picnicking and recreational activities.

Facility Components: 

SKI LODGE -  Includes rustic wooden tables with bench seating, indoor fireplace, restrooms, 3 outdoor grills on patio and outdoor firepit.  Contact Andy Loue at 724.738.2883, andrew.loue@sru.edu.   

CAMPGROUND - Five "Primitive" campsites each with a picnic table, and fire ring. Campsites may be rented for  $10/site/night for up to 4 people; Campsites may be reserved, Free of charge, by SRU students for campfires/cookouts up until 11pm.
