Hello and a warm welcome to Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania (SRU)! I am a nurse, faculty member, and administrator with over twenty years of professional experience. I consider it a privilege to serve as the director at a university that is known for its ongoing contribution to nursing education.
The Nursing Department offers numerous avenues for nursing education and professional development—which are expanding each year! Currently SRU has the RN-BSN completion program and a School Nurse Certification program for those who already are registered nurses. In addition, SRU also offers the 1+2+1 Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program for those who are seeking to become nurses. The experienced nursing faculty are dedicated to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and university and community service. They are committed to your success and provide you with learning experiences that will enhance your professional growth and development.
Nurses are integral to the healthcare workforce, serving as leaders, clinicians, educators, and researchers across diverse care settings. Their role continues to expand in response to evolving healthcare challenges, including workforce shortages, technological advancements, and the growing complexity of patient needs. The demand for high-quality nurses in leadership roles, clinical care, teaching, and research is expected to grow as we seek to address the challenges of today’s world. Baccalaureate and graduate education prepare students for professional nursing practice and leadership roles with enhanced skills in clinical judgement, leadership, interprofessional teamwork and collaboration, and health promotion. As healthcare continues to transform, the demand for highly educated, adaptable, and compassionate nurses will only grow. Higher education not only equips nurses with the tools to lead and innovate but also fosters personal growth and societal contribution.
As you begin your journey at SRU, keep in mind the commitment needed to be successful. The programs at SRU require your use of good study habits, class participation, completion of assignments, and communication with faculty. I encourage you to maximize your learning experience by connecting with the faculty and your peers and being an active participant in your own education.
Congratulations on pursuing your professional and educational goals! Your commitment to join the nursing profession is commendable. Everyone at SRU is dedicated to partnering with you as you strive for success.
