what do we do best?
Our programs are growing to provide students with opportunities to specialize within their major and to keep up with workforce trends and needs.
Specialized Programs of Study: Students who qualify can now participate in our Honors Lifespan Developmental Concentration, Neuroscience Concentration, or the accelerated 3+2 Pre-PA (incoming freshman only), Pre-Counseling (3+3), Pre-Student Affairs (3+2), or Psychology with Chatham University (MSCP and MAP) programs. Students interested in non-accelerated studies to prepare for careers in medicine (physician assistant, medical school) or occupational therapy receive specialized advising to prepare for these fields of study.
Internships: A majority of our majors complete internships in Psychology to develop skills in the areas of Mental Health Counseling, Community and Social Services, Corrections, School Psychology, Human Resources, Research and others. Psychology majors obtain competitive internships that often lead to jobs following graduation.
We excel in hands-on learning &mentoring: A majority of our juniors and seniors are involved in some way with faculty outside of the classroom, conducting research, and engaged in service and leadership. Numerous student/faculty research projects are ongoing, giving students an opportunity to work closely with faculty to develop research skills. Three student organizations are run through the Psychology Department, including Psi Chi, the international honor society in psychology, Psychology Club, and the Reflections Program. SRU Psychology majors are among the most involved in research, service, and leadership outside the classroom in PASSHE.
